Moving to Memphis: 6 Must-Do Activities | Crye-Leike Real Estate Services

Moving to Memphis? Welcome! From dining and shopping to history and culture, this vibrant city has so much to offer its residents. Our Memphis real estate agents have spent a lot of time in the city prepping our Memphis homes for sale, and they've gotten to know it like an old friend. Check out these seven must-do activities to get acquainted with this area too.

  1. Memphis Botanic Garden - 750 Cherry Road, Memphis, TN 38117
The Memphis Botanic Garden is a 96-acre natural wonder filled with over 30 gorgeous manicured gardens. See the spring flowers in bloom, take a guided tour of your favorite spots, look at the many artistic works and sculptures on display, or enjoy a picnic in this serene green space. There's even an interactive play space called My Big Backyard where kids can learn more about Memphis' ecosystem through hands-on experiences.

  2. National Civil Rights Museum – 450 Mulberry St., Memphis, TN 38103
Take time to explore the National Civil Rights Museum, one of the nation's most prominent cultural museums. This institution is located within the building that used to be the Lorraine Motel, the site where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated in 1968. Today, it contains multitudes of exhibits chronicling the advancement of social progress and the many activists who fought to make positive change happen.

  3. Bass Pro Shops at the Pyramid - 1 Bass Pro Drive, Memphis, TN 38105
Originally built as a sports arena, the Memphis Pyramid has been home to a Bass Pro Shops megastore since 2015. While you can definitely shop, this 32-story location offers so much more! Ride the elevator to the top to see breathtaking views of the city, enjoy aquatic-themed bowling, order a meal at Wahlburgers Wild, and stay onsite at Big Cypress Lodge. There really is something for everyone at this popular attraction.

  4. Graceland - 3734 Elvis Presley Blvd., Memphis, TN 38116
Graceland is much more than the estate home where rock n' roll legend Elvis Presley lived and died. It currently features 120 acres of exhibits, entertainment, and hotel space, all themed around the King himself. You can tour the home, examine over 100 pieces of stagewear worn by Elvis during his performances, and learn more about his early life and musical influences. You can even step into one of Elvis' custom airplanes, the extravagantly decorated Lisa Marie.

  5. Memphis Zoo - 2000 Prentiss Place, Memphis, TN 38112
The Memphis Zoo houses over 3,500 animals, including tigers, gorillas, crocodiles, and two-toed sloths. There's also a large aquarium, a tropical birdhouse, and a farm exhibit with domesticated animals like chickens, donkeys, and goats. For a small additional fee, you can visit the zoo's Dino Park and learn about the many species of dinosaurs that once lived on the banks of the Mississippi River.

  6. Sun Studio – 706 Union Ave., Memphis, TN 38103
Also known as "The Legendary Sun Studio" and "The Birthplace of Rock n' Roll," Sun Studio is where countless renowned musicians (including B.B. King, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, and even Elvis himself) recorded their hit tunes in the 1950s. Visitors can enjoy a guided studio tour, listen to outtakes from historic recording sessions, and get a closer look at all kinds of rock n' roll memorabilia.

  7. Beale Street – Beale Street, Memphis, TN 38103
Beale Street's bustling atmosphere and lively musical scene have drawn crowds as far back as the 1840s. It's still a hotspot to this day, offering residents access to the trendiest dining, nightlife, and live music events in the city. It also features many landmark locations like Handy Park (a historic event space named for the grandfather of blues music) and the Orpheum Theater

There's always something new going on in the Home of the Blues. We'll help you get closer to all the action. Contact us for more information on our Memphis home listings or to connect with our expert real estate team.
